Dev log - week 8

Nuno Ramos:

This week my colleagues and I made a very detailed list of all things left to implement. After doing this I did some minor improvements to the game, mostly cleaning up some of the rough edges in landmarks and taking extra measures to ensure that the next landmarks we implement are cohesive with each other. Finally, I started making some elements that will be used for future landmarks, like a more robust system for resetting a landmark and generic objects like a door moving on a timer (to allow for landmarks that require the player to reach from point A to point B in some amount of time).

João Silva:

This last week, was all about the movement and visuals. I started by updating the movement system in a way where each material contributes differently to the movement (different jump forces, etc..). I updated some of the movement parameters (from the feedback of last week), namely the one that increase the speed at which the heavier material falls down so that the player can gain even more momentum when falling down a slope. Regarding the visuals, together with Rafael we played around a lot with different shaders. We tried toon shading which even though looked great, sacrified the gameplay a bit because it made the landing a bit harder. Finally we implemented the sun mechanic and a daylight cycle that turned out really cool, we also added some fog and post processing to the overworld which drastically improved the look of the game.

Francisco Sousa:
This week I started building one of the 3 remaining challenges, discussed concept art with our artist for the final product and steered the writing team in the right direction with regards to the scriptures that the player will collect with information about how to complete the game. Besides all that, I also started to make a small library of final sounds for the game, which I'll hopefully implement into the game next week.

Rafael Vaz:
João & I challenged each other to make a good looking day-night cycle with a physical Sun. We were able to quickly implement a rotating sphere, moving across the whole map. After connecting the rotation of the sun to the directional light. It looked great. After some tweaking we were content with it. Although we were missing a skybox. We found a really great and powerfull addon that helped as make a dynamic skybox and now we are quite happy with the general look of the game. It still need some tweaking, but we are going in a good direction.
